It will happen to anyone who wants to stand up and proclaim the true message of Islam to the world.In recent times we have the example of\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eash-Shaheed (the Martyr) Sayyid Qutb\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e. He was imprisoned, tortured and eventually executed on August 29, 1966. He was no ordinary Muslim. A man of impeccable Islamic credentials, he made an immense contribution to Islamic political thought at a time when the Muslim world was still mesmerized by such western notions as nationalism, the nation-State and fathers of nations.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt was in this atmosphere that\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eash-shaheed Sayyid Qutb\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003ebravely raised his voice – indeed his pen – against these false ideologies and in one clean sweep denounced them as the modern-day\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eJahiliyyahh (the primitive savagery of pre- Islamic days)\u003c\/i\u003e. He knew that it was inevitable the forces of\u003ci\u003eJahilliyah\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ewould seek to silence him and yet he, unlike others, courageously stood firm and was ready to sacrifice everything in the pursuit of seeking Allah’s pleasure. He writes,\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003e‘Indeed our words will remain lifeless, barren, devoid of any passion, until we die as a result of these words, whereupon our words will suddenly spring to life and live on amongst the hearts that are dead, bringing them back to life as well.’\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMany insights of\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eash-shaheed Sayyid Qutb\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003ehave stood the test of time. His assertion that a virulent crusading spirit remains at the core of Western culture, despite a relative decline in active adherence to Christianity, has been tragically vindicated by the genocidal assaults on the Muslims of Bosnia, Chechnya, Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq, and the false imprisonment of tens of thousands of Muslim activists around the world re-enforce\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eash-shaheed Sayyid Qutb\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003eanalysis of the Western world and their hatred of the Muslim World. Sayyid Qutb’s death earned him the ‘highest honour in Islam – Martyrdom – and his memory still provokes deep passions among millions of admirers.’\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cb\u003eHis books have been translated into virtually every language that Muslims read and remain hugelyinfluential.
